Questions for Contemplation

1. When SpongeBob meets Sandy, he quickly makes friends with her. How do you handle meeting new people? SpiongeBob and Sandy both enjoy Karate. How much effort do you put into finding common ground with new people you meet?

2. Even though they have only me once, SpongeBob agrees to go over to Sandy's house. Are you this trusting of the basic goodness of others? Why or why not? Based on his previous experiences, do you think SpongeBob should be this trusting of strangers? What does this say about him?

3. SpongeBob pretends to know what air is to impress Sandy. Do you ever try to impress others by pretending to know more than you do? This backfires on SpongeBob. Have you ever suffered rather than admit you needed something? SpongeBob thought that if he asked for water he would be a quitter. Do you think this is an accurate assessment of the situation? Why or why not? Did his opinion change by the end of this book?

Statements for Consideration and Absorbtion

When you meet new people, try to find some common ground with them.
Trust in the basic goodness of others.
"Water...would be nice"
If you do not know what something means, just ask.
Don't be afraid to admit you need somehting, and ask for it.
If you want to be fancy, hold your pinky up. The higher you hold it, the fancier you are.
